Bio
My name is Shawn Fowler. I am originally from San Diego, California, and was raised in Northeast Ohio where I attended Kent State University and received my BA in International Relations with a Minor in Political Science. After graduating from KSU, I attended Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where I completed a post graduate teacher licensure program which culminated in my licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, and the States of Ohio, and Alabama to teach Integrated Social Studies for grades 7-12. Prior to teaching I spent 6 years in Latin America, living in Costa Rica, Mexico, Brazil, The Dominican Republic, and Ecuador where I worked on and later directed public health and development programs with a variety of governmental and non-governmental organizations. I speak fluent Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian as well as some French. My wife and I moved to the region in July of 2004 as she took a new job. In the process of moving, I was recruited by Lee County Schools where I have taught for the last nine years. In addition to teaching here at Smiths Station, I am on the faculty at Columbus State University where I have taught photography post production editing since 2011. I also run a photography business in my spare time and have had work published in magazines like National Geographic Traveler, exhibited nationally and internationally, and used in documentary film. I look forward to working with you and your child this semester.
